Eligibility Criteria for Service Termination Benefits

Employees who are eligible for termination benefits and their entitlements are as follows:

  1. Have served in the public service for more than a  year but less than two years: 10 days’ wages for each year of service.
  2. Have served in the public service for more than two years but less than five years: 15 days’ wages for each year of service.
  3. Have served in the public service for five years or more: 20 days’ wages for each year of service

The following are circumstances which dictate why a terminated employee may be ineligible for benefits:

  1. Have served in the public service for less than 12 months before termination date.
  2. Service contract has been renewed or continued and the benefits stated in the service terms and conditions are not lesser than the previous terms and conditions
  3. If the employer has given a notice on the continuation of contract seven days before the previous contract terminates; with the benefits stated in the services terms and conditions is not lesser from the previous terms and conditions.
  4. After receiving the termination notice, the employee leaves the employment without the employer’s consent or compensates the employer in lieu of notice.
