Malaysia’s education sector comprises public and private schools as well as higher education institutions. Operations of all schools and institutions are governed by the Ministry of Higher Education (Malay version only), the Ministry of Education, and its agency, the Department of Private Education (Malay version only). 

Thrust Two of the National Mission in the Ninth Malaysian Plan states the Government's intentions to raise the capacity for knowledge and innovation and to nurture first class education.
